“Everything works, including the Audi air ride suspension”
This might actually be a decent example ???

I still sorta want one of these, since I’m in the tank for Audi but I’m not sure about the seller. These words have never been written about an old Allroad before:

Definitely not sure about the seller. Sounds like they know enough to make that comment, but then, it’s yet-another-used-car-lot........

I’m still scarred by the experience of my neighbor, who was an Allroad Addict with Stockholm Syndrome— He’d been viciously abused for “air suspension replacements” by the dealer, but kept going back for more.
I always liked the vibe with these cars, but also always felt like the “drove heavy”. Everything about the driving experience felt a little leaden. Even though that Twin Turbo made a lot of power.

Never believe the words “Everything works”. When I bought my ‘66 Thunderbird, the seller said everything worked. He was wrong. Very wrong. I bought it anyway, because it was still a good deal and I like the car, but the radio barely worked, one of the signals wouldn’t automatically cancel, the tilting steering wheel does not tilt, the tempt gau ge is useless, only one of the four power windows works reliably, and so on.

There was a guy on NH craigslist for a while with like, 4 of them in various states. Trying to sell some/all of them “too many projects” - yeah.

Two questions, tho:
1) has anyone ever seen an ad for the V8 version, let alone one DOTS?
2) would buying a used Volvo XC70 3.2 (I6 NA) show more compassion towards your wallet?

As somebody pointed out the other day, our favorite is the classic CL ad proclaiming “Everything Works”... which then proceeds to list an AC system that doesn’t work, a clutch going out, a dead radio, brake pads down to metal-on-metal and a noise from the front of the engine.

I currently DD just such a Volvo, and it’s... fine. But I’m also coming from 10 years of E46 ownership...

I don’t think Volvo offered any of the V70 XC models in manual in the US, which is a damn shame.

Saw one for sale recently that looked decent, price was ok too. Looked at my wife. Looked at the reliable NA I6 Volvo in the driveway. Looked back at the V70R. Looked back at my wife.
Annnnd that’s a no.

I would like my XC70 considerably better as a manual. It doesn’t lack power, but the transmission constantly wants to be in a gear or two higher than is appropriate. If I want to drive it any other way than lazily, it fights me. I’ve driven it a little using the manual-shift mode of the auto, and it’s SO much better... except I can’t bring myself to drive it like that all the time.

Heavy breathing is right although $7k seems a little CP to me. I love my V60 and I don’t completely hate the automatic, but DAMN it needs a manual. I love these old Allroads. I guy I know as an old 1995.5 S4 Avant wagon. He keeps is in pretty good shape and when recently told it couldn’t be aligned because of subframe rust he found a spare and someone who could weld it in (not sure how that turned out yet)
